Billy Hedel and Tom Loesch
Billy Hedel and Tom Loesch didn’t know that two weeks volunteering as guest gallerists this spring would turn into a permanent gig,
Billy, an award-winning artist, works in multiple media, both 2-D and 3-D, and often works in series, with trees being a long-loved subject. He is a Chicago native, and also lived in New Orleans (where he worked as a tour guide) and Evansville (where he established his own studio and gallery). Billy and Tom, a former poet, bookseller, gallery manager, tour guide, and public health academic, happily retired to New Albany in 2018. Both have been honored for their work in historic preservation and community leadership in the arts.
Volunteering at BSG, which has represented Billy since 2022, “is an ideal way to meet more of the local art community, which has a rich history for us to learn. People have been very welcoming here,” Tom said. Billy’s first major show at BSG (with Marty Edlin) is scheduled for January 2025.
Come visit and meet “the boys,” Julie’s nickname for the pair.
